Narconon Drug Rehab Provides Alternative To Incarceration
Until recently the main means of controlling the problem was to incarcerate addicts for the resulting property crimes resulting from the need to fund their drug habits. Providing treatment for the root cause of the problem did not enter into the picture.

NORCROSS, GA, March 11, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Alternative to Incarceration programs are gaining ground across the country. In many states drug courts provide oversight to thousands of drug addicts who would normally spend time in jail or prison as a result of drug related crimes.

Unfortunately these programs offer very little funding for the actual drug treatment programs often leaving it up to the addict to find treatment or worse suggesting that they go to meetings and simply "stay clean".

Addiction treatment however has met with success in the case of a Narconon student who facing charges was allowed to enter a drug rehab program.

Danielle arrived to Narconon in shackles and a big rap sheet that included grand auto theft. She had spent her 18th birthday in jail and arrived to Narconon determined that she would live her life a perpetual criminal and drug addict.

However, four months later as a Narconon graduate, Danielle has an entirely new perspective on life. She writes, she paints and she wants to bring the Narconon program to others who have lost hope. She has a purpose.

Most important to Danielle is the fact that she has repaired the relationship with her mother. When Danielle was on the run, her mother used to leave voice messages begging for a call just to know her daughter was alive. Now she can talk to her daughter as much as she likes and what Danielle is talking about these days is a life full of hope and promise.

Until recently the main means of controlling the problem was to incarcerate addicts for the resulting property crimes resulting from the need to fund their drug habits. Providing treatment for the root cause of the problem did not enter into the picture.
More than half of those in the criminal justice system who complete treatment programs and participate in aftercare do not commit new crimes. Most prisoners, who serve mandatory sentences, but get no treatment, commit new crimes and start using drugs or alcohol soon after release.

Narconon of Georgia is a non-profit drug rehabilitation and education center.
